Five candidates for public advocate had a lively discussion about how they would manage the office being vacated by Bill de Blasio, who is running for mayor, during a forum hosted by the Center for Community and Ethnic Media at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

The candidates answered questions from reporters and editors from the ethnic and community media on how they would address the office’s limited budget, how to best help the city’s immigrant communities, and who has the better experience to become the city’s watchdog.

Councilwoman Letitia James, former deputy public advocate Reshma Saujani, college professor Cathy Guerreiro, state Sen. Daniel Squadron, and NYPD community relations specialist and advisor Sidique Wai squared off in the 90-minute August 5 forum moderated by Garry Pierre-Pierre, director of the Center for Community and Ethnic Media.
