The Center for Community and Ethnic Media at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism is organizing a special Newsmakers Series panel for the community and ethnic press on 2017 mayoral and city council elections.

The panel is part of CCEM’s efforts to prepare the community and ethnic press for the election season and to help it improve and expand its coverage. Moderated by NY1’s Errol Louis, who is also director of urban reporting program at CUNY J-School, the panel will focus, among other topics, on:

  • Key issues that are likely to dominate the election season
  • Important city races and seats
  • The candidates and their positions on various issues
  • Voting trends and divisions, especially in city enclaves with a large immigrant population
  • Tips for election coverage and reporting resources
