Commissioner Joshi will discuss topics such as the growth and regulation of the app-dispatched segment of the for-hire industry (i.e. Uber, Lyft and others), pilot programs testing new vehicle safety technology and  GPS-based fare meters for taxis, and the open availability of green Boro Cab Permits, previously limited in availability only to veteran drivers.  Other possible topics include English language requirements for drivers of for-hire vehicles, TLC licensing standards and regulations governing the taxi and FHV industries.

Errol Louis, NY1’s Inside City Hall host and Director of the Urban Reporting Concentration at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, will be joined by two journalists from community and ethnic media. The panelists will ask a round of questions of the Commissioner, after which time questions will be taken from other reporters in attendance.

The event is being organized jointly by the Center for Community and Ethnic Media at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission only for the members of community and ethnic media.
