WHO: NYC Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Travis Bassett, Errol Louis (NY1), Vania Andre (The Haitian Times) and Jarrett Murphy (City Limits)
Commissioner Bassett will discuss the Health Department’s focus on a community-based approach to public health; the creation of the Center for Health Equity within the agency; the efforts to reduce health disparities; the agency’s Community Health Profiles and Take Care New York 2020 initiative; the city’s immigrant health initiative, Direct Access; the Ebola outbreak and how the Health Department engaged the West African community; the sodium warning rule, and much more.
Errol Louis, NY1’s Inside City Hall host and Director of the Urban Reporting Concentration at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, will be joined by Vania Andre (The Haitian Times) and Jarrett Murphy (City Limits). The panel will ask a round of questions of Commissioner, after which time the questions will be taken from other reporters in attendance.
The event is being organized jointly by the Center for Community and Ethnic Media at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene for the members of community and ethnic media.
This is the sixth of the ongoing series of Q&As for Newsmakers and the first for 2016. Errol Louis will host all the sessions.
