Whether it’s to accompany a written story or for social media, photos are the first thing people look at on a screen or page. From techniques to help improve composition to tips for getting the most out of your phone and photo apps, this workshop will show you how to get professional photos with your smartphone. The workshop will cover:

  • The fundamentals of good photo composition
  • Tips and tricks for getting the most out your phone’s camera app
  • Managing difficult lighting situations with a phone
  • HDR, panoramas and other special features of your phone’s camera app
  • Editing your images and image management on your smartphone
  • Useful apps and accessories for better smartphone photography
  • Strategies for using photos to drive traffic to your site or social media

NOTE: Participants are asked to come to class with a fully charged smartphone.

INSTRUCTOR’S BIO:
John Smock

John Smock is the Director of the Photojournalism Program at the CUNY J School and a photojournalist working for the SIPA agency and the Associated Press. John just taught this workshop to 200 reporters and editors at the Philadelphia Inquirer.
