In this four-hour training, we will start with the essential media kit and end with techniques to approach potential advertisers. Through hands-on exercises, you will learn:

  • How to research your market to set appropriate advertising rates
  • What statistics and information to include in your media kit
  • How to design your media kit yourself if you don’t have a designer
  • How to keep your media kit updated
  • Where to display your media kit on your site
  • How to use your media kit in presentations to advertisers
  • Where to find lists of advertisers
  • How to decide who is a match and craft a pitch
  • How to set advertisers’ expectations and how to deal with ‘bad ads’
  • How to grow and maintain relationships with advertisers
  • How to think creatively about pursuing advertising revenue

Please bring your media kit, if you have one, for review. (You can black out any sensitive information you do not want to share with the group.)

About the instructor:

Dina Rabiner has been the director of sales and marketing for BKLYNER for the past four years. She created her news organization’s media kit, implemented a marketing plan, raised her brand’s identity through social media campaigns and partnerships and increased revenue. Previously, she was director of marketing and communications at Girl Scouts of Greater New York.
