CCEM organized a press briefing in collaboration with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at the DOHMH’s Queens location. Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett briefed members of the community and ethnic media on new cases of the Zika virus and the precautions visitors, especially pregnant women, must take during trips to regions with incidence of Zika virus. She was joined by Dr. Juan Tapia Mendoza, head of the Pediatrics 2000 practice in Harlem and Washington Heights, who shared his experience with Zika-infected patients and explained the numerous precautions pregnant women and their partners need to take. Also at the briefing, Dr. Sonia Angell, deputy commissioner at the health department, presented a report on Immigrant Health in the city in 2014.
